Weekend Guide: Casablanca, Christmas in July, and more…

Attack of the Killer Tomato Festival

JCT Kitchen & Bar. Sunday, 1pm – 5pm. $55+ for Georgia Organics members, $60+ for non-members.

Head downtown to sample some of the best tomato creations from top Southeastern chefs this weekend! Each team (comprised of a chef, local farmer, and mixologist) will concoct a unique tomato dish and signature cocktail for all attendees to sample. Chefs Kevin Gillespie (Woodfire Grill), Steven Satterfield (Miller Union), and Hector Santiago (Pura Vida) are just a few of the area’s culinary masters slated to participate. May the best tomato win!

Casablanca (featuring the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra)

Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre At Encore Park. Friday, 8:30pm. $12+.

Watch the classic film, Casablanca, in the open air while the Grammy Award-winning Atlanta Symphony Orchestra performs the movie’s memorable score. This event also features Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz. Visit the Food & Beverage section of Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre’s website (http://www.vzwamp.com/plan-your-visit/food-beverage/) to learn more about pre-ordering a Casablanca-themed picnic basket, complete with Fig and Goat Cheese Salad, a Moroccan Filet Kabob Pita Sam-Wich, and Coffee and Date Encrut.

Salsambo’s Latin Night at Fernbank Museum

Fernbank Museum of Natural History. Friday, 6:30pm – 11:55pm. $7.

Dance under the dinosaurs every 3rd Friday with Salsambo. Join Salsambo for a spicy evening where you mix, mingle, shimmie and shake “Latin Style.” You’ll see everything from beginners to professional dancers out on the dance floor. Ticket includes a Salsa Lesson at 8pm in addition to great entertainment from the Salsambo performers.

Taste of East Atlanta

East Atlanta Village. Thursday, 5pm – 9pm. $1+.

Anyone who thinks you can’t get anything for a dollar these days certainly hasn’t experienced Taste of East Atlanta. This neighborhood festival features small bites from local favorites – including Holy Taco, Blue Frog and Gravity Pub – for only a buck each. The sweetest part? All proceeds benefit East Atlanta Community Association.

Second Life Christmas in July Open House

Second Life Upscale Resale. Saturday, 11am – 3pm. Free.

Because 12 months is just too long to wait between Christmases, Second Life will host a Christmas in July Open House this weekend with carolers, giveaways, an ugly sweater challenge, pet adoptions and more in its very own winter wonderland. Of course, for the homeless pets the event benefits, there’s no better gift than a loving new home!
