The Visit 2010
Emory University. Numerous events Sunday – Wednesday. $10 – $100, depending on event.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama returns to the campus of Emory University October 17-19 in his capacity as Presidential Distinguished Professor, the first university appointment accepted by the 1989 Nobel Peace Laureate and leader of the Tibetan people. He will participate in a series of public events on the science of compassion meditation, the role of spirituality in creativity, interfaith dialogue on the topic of happiness, and a teaching for the Buddhist community on compassion.

10th Annual Little 5 Points Halloween Festival and Parade
Moreland and Euclid Ave. Festivities Friday and Saturday with parade starting Saturday at 4pm. Free.
Join the crowd at the biggest Halloween party in the southeast, held every year in the unique commercial district of the Little 5 Points neighborhood. Sip a PBR as you wander the Artists Market on Colquitt Avenue, rock out to live music at multiple outdoor stages, and feast on food from local vendors. Don’t miss the L5P Parade on Saturday afternoon, a “never-to-be-missed creative community spectacle” complete with a float and costume competition.

Brookhaven Arts Festival 2010
Behind the Brookhaven MARTA station parking lot on Apple Valley Road. Saturday, 10am – 6pm; Sunday, 12pm – 6pm. Free.
This arts and entertainment festival is now in its 7th year of unifying the Brookhaven Community, and this year’s event offers something for everyone. Over 125 juried artists will be showcasing their work, musical groups from around the state will perform throughout the weekend, and children can contribute their creativity to a community mural to be auctioned at the Brookhaven Arts Alliance annual fundraiser. Keep an eye out for promotional posters and t-shirts featuring a graphic designed by festival contest winner Manami Lingerfelt from Japan.

Eggshell Stompers Live in Atlanta
WonderRoot. Monday, 9pm – 10pm. Free.
After a 5 year hiatus, the Eggshell Stompers are back and, in their own words, “ready to smack audiences silly with a new batch of sick sleazy punk pop-sickles.” Comprised of members Lil Miss Cupcake, Heinrich von Stomper, and Joe Hex, this punk rock band will be making their return to the Atlanta punk rock music scene Monday night at WonderRoot. You can hear some of their newly mastered tracks on their Facebook Page.

13th Annual EGGtoberfest
Atlanta Motor Speedway. Friday, 5pm – 9pm; Saturday, 9am – 5pm. $20 – $40; under 18 free.
Held the third weekend in October each year, EGGtoberfest originated in 1998 as a way for Big Green Egg to say thanks to loyal customers and provide the opportunity for them to get together and meet, greet and eat. These days the festivities include raffles, music, Pace Car rides, and of course cooking demos with fare that can range from moose kabobs and Alaskan salmon to grilled pineapple and rum soaked apple cake. The EGGs that are cooked on are sold afterward at handsome discounts, thus a number of lucky purchasers can take one home at day’s end. Ladies and Gentlemen….Start Your EGGs!

Norcross Ghost Tour
54 Jones Street, Norcross. Thursday-Saturday, tours start at 7pm, 8pm, and 9pm. $12 for adults, $8 for children.
Get spooked by “Southern Spirits” on an evening stroll through downtown Norcross. Spirited guides will lead your tour while teaching you more about the history and hauntings of this quiet town. Norcross Ghost Tour is offered every Thursday, Friday and Saturday through the end of October.
