Royal Wedding Promotional Gift Boxes Auctioned Off for Charity

promotional gift boxesPrince William and Kate Middleton – or, should I say, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – are happily married and back to their “normal” lives by now, nearly two weeks since the Royal Wedding; however, the craze over their marriage hasn’t ended, as is evinced by the auctioning off of twenty promotional gift boxes full of “rubbish” collected from the streets surrounding Buckingham Palace shortly after the nuptials occurred.

These promotional gift boxes are attractively branded Perspex constructions filled with commemorative items from candy wrappers to newspapers collected by individuals representing Altitude London, an entertainment venue that is currently auctioning off the boxes to raise money for charity. And as they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit Centrepoint, a charity for the homeless of which Prince William is patron.

Well never fear ladies (or gentlemen…); with the slew of Kate Middleton promotional products that have been produced to promote the upcoming nuptials, you can at least pretend to be Her Royal Highness Princess William of Wales.

The promotional products started innocently enough with replicas of her 18-carat sapphire and diamond engagement ring, but now there are even bed sheets printed with the bodies of Kate and William that let you pretend to be the royal duo as they appeared at the press conference announcing their engagement. The actual dress she wore (a $600+ blue Issa London dress, featuring a gathered waist and a pleated front skirt) sold out in under 24 hours after Kate was seen wearing it, and though not exactly promotional products, there are several knock-offs now on sale that let you copy her look for a fraction of the price.

Royal Wedding Party - Bosnia

Across the pond in England, many promotional product suppliers are working with distributors to offer an array of “royal wedding” related inexpensive giveaways, including tea tins, bookmarks, bags, and even alcoholic beverages. According to Neil Saunders, consulting director of retail researchers Verdict, the sale of royal wedding merchandise could exceed $42.5 million (£26 million). UK based trade association for the advertising specialty industry, PROMOTA, has even gone so far as to create an entire web site for suppliers to upload images of wedding related products which they have designed.

With promotional options starting as low as $1 (royal crown bookmarks) and hitting prices as high as $3000 (an 18k white gold replica of Kate’s engagement ring), you can invest as much or as little as you would like in celebrating Friday’s royal nuptials.

Many people are throwing parties to watch the festivities with friends and family from home, so here are a few ideas on how to stage a memorable viewing party of your own using handmade and store-bought inexpensive giveaways.

Promotional Mugs for Royalty (and Royal Tea)

Royal weddings don’t happen very often, and as the first ceremony in more than twenty years, this Friday’s marriage of Prince William to Kate Middleton has been one of the most talked about events in 2011 around the world. The royal wedding craze has led to a made-for-TV Lifetime movie (that Britain’s Guardian newspaper has called “awful, toe-curlingly, teeth-furringly, pillow-bitingly ghastly”) as well as hundreds of different commemorative products, from beer to serving platters to promotional mugs.

As popular personalized items for an array of occasions, it’s no surprise that promotional mugs have been branded with dozens of images, words, and phrases in honor of the upcoming royal wedding. After all, we Americans watching the event live will need something to hold our coffee, as coverage of the ceremony begins as early at 4 am EST (with the actual nuptials beginning at 6 am).
