Hello, local readers. After a break for Thanksgiving, we’re back this week with your weekend guide to share our favorite things to do in and around Atlanta and point out where you can get free stuff along the way. As always, be sure to add anything we missed in the comments.


SEC Championship 2010

Georgia Dome. Saturday, 4pm. Prices vary.

This weekend the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Auburn Tigers will meet in Atlanta for the 2010 SEC Football Championship Game to determine who will win this season’s conference title. Tickets are still available, but if you’re not willing to pay the hefty price to catch the action live at the stadium, bars and restaurants all around the Atlanta metro area will have the game playing on their big screens. Be sure to don your promotional team spirit apparel and accessories so everyone knows who you’re rooting for.

The Rink: Ice Skating at Piedmont Park

Park Tavern. Weekdays, 4pm and 9pm; Saturdays and Sundays, 9am, 1pm, 5pm, 9pm. $10 (plus $5 for skate rental).

Enjoy the winter season on ice! From now through Valentine’s Day you can ice skate at Piedmont Park while enjoying modern amenities such as a heated tent, surround sound music, and rink-side dining. Tickets available online only.

Free Pizza Day at Pizzeria Venti

2770 Lenox Road. Friday, 11am – 10pm. Free.

Pizzeria Venti is giving away free slices of pizza (one per customer) all day in honor of their second birthday. Come celebrate their success, enjoy delicious pies and enter to win free pizza for a year! You can also bring in canned and dry goods, which Pizzeria Venti will donate to the Atlanta Community Food Bank.

Funky Flea ATL

Spring 4th Center. Saturday, 12pm – 5pm. Free.

Join Fashion Rebirth for the first-ever Funky Flea ATL, a shopping event for fashionistas with some of Atlanta’s hottest vintage and contemporary accessories, apparel, and beauty vendors – not to mention Atlanta’s funkiest DJ”GRANDMAN” spinning dance music all afternoon! The best part? Attendees can shop the afternoon away with FREE mimosas in hand.

MJCCA Vodka & Latkes

Shout, Midtown Atlanta. Thursday, 7pm – 11pm. $10 members, $15 non-members in advance; $15 members, $20 non-members at the door.

Come celebrate the Festival of Lights on the rooftop of one of Atlanta’s favorite restaurants. Throughout the night enjoy music mixed by a live DJ along with latkes and drinks. Drink tickets and latkes are included in the price, and valet parking is complimentary. If you’re still not sold, though, LeBron fans…they will be showing his return to the “Q” in Cleveland. What a great combination. Happy Chanukah!

Shmaltz Brewing’s Jewbelation

Select bars in Atlanta & Athens. Now through Sunday, December 9. Prices vary.

In honor of Hanukkah, Shmaltz Brewing is selecting 88 bars throughout the U.S. to feature its special Jewbelation variety of flavors on tap.
