Glassware, Koozies and More for International IPA Day

Beer lovers around the world will raise their glasses tomorrow in celebration of the first annual International IPA Day.

International IPA Day – or #IPADay as you’ll see it called in the Twitterverse – is part of a grassroots movement to bring together brewers, bloggers, and beer enthusiasts through social media. Sean of 2beerguys beer blog writes that the India Pale Ale “represents the pinnacle of brewing innovation with its broad spectrum of diverse brands, subcategories, and regional flavor variations – making it the perfect style to galvanize craft beer’s social voice.” Indeed, the India Pale Ale is made and enjoyed around the world by an incredible variety of brewers, which means that there’s a good chance you’ll be able to fill your glass with something local when you toast to International IPA Day on August 4. Here in Atlanta, many of us will celebrate with a draft or bottle from our very own SweetWater Brewing Company.

SweetWater is one of 10 breweries that will host a party “of epic IPA proportions” this Thursday, which Atlanta beer enthusiasts won’t want to miss. Between 5:30 and 7:30 PM rare casks will be hooked up to the taps in the SweetWater tasting room, including:

  • SweetWater IPA
  • Big Medlin Double IPA
  • Border Hopper – Fresh Hopped IPA
  • Wet Dream – Fresh Hopped IPA
  • Browneyed Buckeye – Brown Double IPA (Dank Tank series)
  • Jack Daniels Barrel Aged SweetWater IPA
  • Woodford Reserve Barrel Aged SweetWater IPA
  • Jim Beam Barrel Aged SweetWater IPA
  • IPA Cask dry hopped with Calypso
  • IPA Cask dry hopped with Centennial and Black Pepper

For the usual tour fee of $8/person, guests will get to imbibe in SweetWater custom pint glasses filled with samples of these one-of-a-kind brews. You’ll have the opportunity to take home more than a new piece of glassware, though – attendees who flash their Foursquare check-in when they arrive at the brewery will receive a complimentary promotional koozie, and anyone who tweets with the hashtag #IPADay or checks in on Untappd, Foursquare, or Facebook Places will be entered in a drawing to win a cool SweetWater IPA wooden sign.

If you won’t be in Atlanta tomorrow, don’t worry! Breweries, bars, and beer lovers around the world will be hosting get-togethers to celebrate IPA Day, so there’s likely to be an opportunity in your town as well (just ask Google).

Cheers, y’all!
