Promoting the Jelly Bean

At the Google I/O Conference yesterday, the newest Android OS was announced.

To be honest, I’m an iPhone user, so the newest Android update doesn’t mean much to me. But if you’re a Droid user, Jelly Bean is said to be more user friendly. It’ll let you call or email people from the notifications panel and it has features that will decrease data usage and increase battery life. Sounds good for Droid users.

Also, it has a fun name. And after doing some research, I’ve come to find out that every update that Android has put out has had a food related name:

• Jelly Bean
• Ice Cream Sandwich
• Honeycomb
• Gingerbread
• Froyo
• Eclair
• Donut
• Cupcake

Aside from assembling giant statues outside of the Google headquarters, I wonder what other products Google is using to promote Jelly Bean. The most obvious choice would be…wait for it… a jelly bean machine! If they wanted to go a little smaller, a bag of promotional jelly beans would work just fine.

Never underestimate the power of candy when promoting your product. If Google wants to send me some jelly beans, maybe I’ll get rid of my iPhone. Maybe…
