Meet the Bloggers – Sofia

1. What is your favorite TV show?
It would have to be a tie between How I Met Your Mother and Dr. Who. Not many other shows have me laughing, crying, and yelling at the television all in one episode.
2. Do you have any children or pets?
I have one dog and he is a lab-pit mix named Sawyer (after the book by Mark Twain, not the guy from Lost) who is about 2 1/2 years old now, and he is the most spoiled and well traveled dog I know of. His nicknames include “Sawyer the Destroyer” (I’ll let you guess how that one came about) and “Sawyer, Pathfinder Puppy”.
3. What are three things you can’t live without?
I couldn’t live without my laptop, my camera, and my dog.
4. What was your favorite concert?
That would definitely be seeing the Decembrists live in 2009 at the Tabernacle. They had just released The Hazards of Love, and were touring with Becky Stark of Lavender Diamond and Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond who sang on many of the tracks as specific characters. They’d dressed up the stage to reflect the storyline of the album, making it feel like half musical and half rock show. They finished off the night with some of their older songs, including 2 of my favorites, The Engine Drive and O Valencia. I was so caught up in the music that I didn’t realize that I was severely dehydrated and nearly passed out during the encore. Good times.
5. What’s your favorite mobile app?
Given that I’ve moved around a lot in the past year, Yelp and Pandora are my favorites. Yelp was my crash course on finding good food, dog parks, and decent laundromats each time I moved and Pandora provided a great soundtrack. I try to not rely on my phone for too much else, I don’t want to be hopelessly lost if my Maps app isn’t working.
6. Who have you been told is your doppelganger?
I’ve been told I look exactly like one of my aunts, but celebrity-wise, no one.
7. What would your stage name be? (First pet + first street you lived on)
Candy Prestwick… and that sounds like a whole different type of stage name.
8. Who was your favorite teacher and why?
Mrs. Kelley from when I was in kindergarten, because I remember being terrified by the idea of school and she made it amazing. One of the sweetest teacher I’ve ever had. There was Mrs. Hill my senior year of high school because she really challenged me out of my self-induced comfort zone when it came to mathmatics. Then there were various T.A.’s in college who have been fondly nicknamed because I’ve forgotten their names, including “Call Me Matt”, “The one with the handlebar mustache who was going to be an archeologist” and “The one who asked really awesome life questions”.
9. Do you or did you play any sports?
I used to play soccer and lacrosse, but not so much these days.
10. Do you have any special or unique talents?
I’m pretty good at music related trivia, and what my friends refer to as “Packing Tetris”, which means that until very recently I could fit my entirety of my belongings into my Toyota Matrix, including my dog. This game was no longer plausible post couch purchase of late 2012.
