Here’s to Shakespeare!
On this day in 1613, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre burned to the ground. It was the most ornate theatre present in London at the time, and was built in 1597-1598. It could hold several thousand people and was a popular venue for civilians to take in Shakespearean plays.
Whether you are reading (or re-reading!) a transcription of one of Shakespeare’s plays or another literary work, avid readers can never possess too many bookmarks.
