Britney’s Back: New CD Launch Spurs Promotional Buttons Bonanza

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Trending Topic Tuesday,” where we share our take on what’s going on in the world and what promotional products would appropriately (or inappropriately) market the subject matter.

Britney Spears has sold over 100 million records worldwide, earning her a coveted title as one of the best-selling music artists ever. As of June 2010, she was listed as #6 on Forbes’ list of the 100 Most Powerful and Influential celebrities in the world. After a brief hiatus from the spotlight, Britney is back on the music scene with a much-anticipated new album, “Femme Fatale.”

Die-hard Britney fans showed up in full force this morning to support the musician as she took the stage on Good Morning America, many of them sporting promotional buttons exclaiming, “Britney Spears is Back!”. Her latest CD is now available on iTunes or at local music stores.

The media is having a field day, with MTV even declaring today “#FemmeFatale Day.” The station is set to debut a trailer for an upcoming special about Britney’s life surrounding the album’s release tonight at 7:58 pm EST. With surprise performances in Las Vegas and talk show appearances with Jimmy Kimmel and Ellen DeGeneres, Spears is clearly in the midst of a full-blown media blitz.

Britney announced on her GMA appearance that she will begin a tour this summer with Enrique Iglesias, her first tour since the “Circus” tour in 2009. Tickets will be on sale soon and are expected to sell out quickly due to the popularity of both artists.

Love her or hate her, Britney Spears is poised for a comeback, and it will be interesting to see if she succeeds.
