The royal wedding is this Friday! Check our blog for daily updates featuring our favorite promotional products that celebrate the marriage of Prince William of Wales and Kate Middleton.
Were your dreams of marrying Prince William crushed when he officially announced his engagement to Kate Middleton last November? Well never fear ladies (or gentlemen…); with the slew of Kate Middleton promotional products that have been produced to promote the upcoming nuptials, you can at least pretend to be Her Royal Highness Princess William of Wales.

The promotional products started innocently enough with replicas of her 18-carat sapphire and diamond engagement ring, but now there are even bed sheets printed with the bodies of Kate and William that let you pretend to be the royal duo as they appeared at the press conference announcing their engagement. The actual dress she wore (a $600+ blue Issa London dress, featuring a gathered waist and a pleated front skirt) sold out in under 24 hours after Kate was seen wearing it, and though not exactly promotional products, there are several knock-offs now on sale that let you copy her look for a fraction of the price.

Czech President Vaclac Klaus made headlines this week during an official visit to Chile, however the news reports have been focusing on something other than diplomatic matters. During a news conference with Chilean President Sebastian Pinera, Klaus was caught on film “stealing” a ceremonial promotional pen.
Klaus is clearly seen admiring the pen as he takes it from its case and turns it in his hands. He gives a slight nod of approval before moving the hand holding the pen underneath the table behind which Klaus and Pinera are seated, where he then appears to strategically transfer it from the right hand to the left and insert it in his coat pocket before subsequently buttoning his jacket, closing the pen case, and returning both hands to the table.
In his own defense, President Klaus responded to the promotional pen incident claiming that, “This is what people usually do – take a notepad or a pen from events they attend.”

Welcome to this week’s edition of “Trending Topic Tuesday,” where we share our take on what’s going on in the world and what promotional products would appropriately (or inappropriately) market the subject matter.
Today alternative rock music fans, and seemingly the Internet as a whole, are paying homage to musician Kurt Cobain, on this 17th anniversary of his death. Best known as the lead singer and guitarist for the 90s grunge band Nirvana (which has sold over 50 million albums worldwide), Cobain also came to be hailed as a cultural icon, not only impacting the style of popular rock music at the time, but an entire generation of youth who sought solace in his music and lyrics amidst a time of so-called “teenage angst” fueled by the dissolution of family, heightened violence, drug abuse and diminished opportunity. You can remember Cobain today by listening to some classic Nirvana on your promotional MP3 players. I recommend the band’s hit, “Come As You Are,” from their 1992 album, Nevermind.

They may not be as eye-catching as the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile, but LinkedIn is now engaging in mobile marketing, too, (mobile in the traditional sense of the word, as in utilizing motor vehicles) with promotional automotive items and the introduction of the LinkedIn Today coffee trucks. The trucks started riding around the streets of New York and San Francisco this past Monday morning offering free, locally-brewed coffee and “hot news” to those who stop by. This is all part of a marketing campaign to promote LinkedIn Today, the social networking site’s new personalized news product for business professionals.

Today’s blog is in honor of Oscar F. Mayer, and his branding brilliance, on the week before the anniversary of his birth.
Oscar Mayer was born on March 29, 1859 in Kösingen, Germany. Mayer emigrated to the states as a teenaged and began working at a meat market in Detroit, Michigan, eventually starting a butcher and sandwich-making shop of his own in Chicago. In the early 1900s, Mayer began branding his meats to capitalize on their popularity, a move that helped the company grow to become the American meat and cold cut production company – and billion-dollar brand – it is today. Among his most notable branding efforts is the Wienermobile – this promotional automotive item is a hotdog shaped automobile that has been touring the United States for more than 70 years to promote and advertise Oscar Mayer products.

On March 11, a massive 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit the Pacific Ocean near the coast of Honshu, Japan, resulting in a subsequent tsunami and overall tremendous damage to this northeast area of the country. With the country still in crisis – trying to stabilize a reactor in a nuclear plant rocked by the quake and searching for thousands missing, all in the midst of powerful aftershocks continuing to hit the region – many around the world are trying to help those affected by this disaster in any way they can – including by purchasing promotional products.

Ah, the springtime. As the season approaches, people all across the United States look forward to warmer weather, baseball season, spring break vacations, and, of course, the delivery of those coveted boxes of Girl Scout cookies. The Girl Scouts of the USA have been selling cookies since 1917 to raise funds for their organization, and each year since, the anticipation for their arrival increases. Considering America’s adoration for all things edible, it’s not surprising that such promotional food items are successful in garnering funding, and advertising, for a group such as the Girl Scouts.
