Top 5 Essentials When Attending a Tradeshow

Last week was my first PPAI Expo in Vegas.  I had been to other regional tradeshows, but this is the largest, longest-running tradeshow in our industry.  Every year marketers from all over the country come to see, touch, and feel the newest and most unique promotional products and apparel.  The Mandalay Bay convention center has 2 floors filled with rows and rows of booths with products to see.  I knew I needed a game plan before I stepped on the show floor.  Speaking with co-workers that had been to the Expo before, I was given the 5 Essentials When Attending a Tradeshow.  Bonus, I also figured out 1 additional product we’ll be bringing with us next year!

1) Comfortable Shoes - with so much walking you need comfortable shoes to make it through a full show day.  If you can find a mix of comfort and style that is ideal.  I chose my grey, corduroy TOMS and they proved to be an excellent choice.

2) Tote Bag - You need a tote bag to carry your notebook or padfolio, business cards, phone, and other supplies, preferable with lots of pockets.  Pockets and dividers make finding your things quick and easy when time is of the essence.  Megan and I brought our new Pinnacle tote bags that had 4 separate outside pockets and internal pockets for your phone and business cards.

3) WATER – walking and talking can make you thirsty… I recommend you bring a bottle of water because a small soda is $5 at the convention center!

4)  Smartphone/Camera – When you are busy going booth to booth, you’ll want to take lots of pictures of the cool, unique products you find.  Tip: Take a picture of the company sign or business card so you remember where you saw that cool product.  Keep everything digital to avoid having sore arms and shoulders from catalogs and product samples. (Obviously there are some things just too cute not to pick up, hence the tote bag)

5) Hand Sanitizer – shaking hands and touching products that thousands of other people are touching is less than sanitary.  Make sure you bring hand sanitizer or snag a promotional hand sanitizer that someone is giving away.

BONUS Essential for tradeshows – Energy Bar (no not a protein bar, but that’s not a bad idea either) an Energy Bar or Emergency Mobile Device Battery, as they are being called is a small compact battery device that once charged will recharge your smartphone or other mobile device.  I know my phone died on me every day around 4pm when I still had more pictures to take and people to communicate with.  I will definitely bring something like this with me next year!

Hope you enjoyed my list of essential products when attending a tradeshow.  Many of these products that are valuable at a tradeshow can be imprinted with your logo and are great giveaway items for those attendees that didn’t come prepared (custom bottled water, tote bags, hand sanitizer, etc).  My personal tip would be to have a “recharging station” at one end of your booth with chairs, custom bottled water, and a place to recharge your phone.  While your potential clients are resting their feet and recharging, you can be building relationships and provide marketing collateral or a promotional video for them to watch.

Are there any other products I left out?  Let me know if there are other products you feel are essential when attending a tradeshow in the comments below.

Our First Deal of the Month for 2013

January came quickly here at Pinnacle, which meant we had to select our first Deal of the Month for 2013.  We started researching products that would be good for the beginning of the year and we thought a nice water bottle or sports bottle would be a popular item.  With the majority of New Year’s Resolutions being about getting healthy and working out,  the 25 oz Aluminum Bike Bottle was the perfect choice (at a price as low as $3.20!).  This sleek, Camelbak look alike that not only looks good, but the aluminum material keeps your water cold.

Unique Tradeshow Giveaway – Time’s Up Sticky Notes

This time of year everyone starts to think about what inexpensive, yet unique tradeshow giveaway they are going to use for their upcoming shows.  Sometimes just a twist on an existing product does the trick.  Take your normal sticky note that everyone uses and turn it into a creative marketing message.

The Time’s Up Sticky Notes is a watch shaped sticky memo that wraps around your wrist to ensure you don’t forget your important tasks.  This tradeshow giveaway is perfect for a “we’ll save you time” marketing message. It includes 50 sheets and comes in a recyclable case with a large imprint area on the front.  Consider handwriting a unique message on the first watch shaped sheet to give your potential customers information about your company or product.

NPR Hosts Their First Swag Sale Event

Last weekend NPR hosted their first ever warehouse sale where public media fans lined up to buy NPR swag and meet their favorite personalities. It was deemed a big success as lines formed outside its Washington D.C. building.  They sold everything from your basic t-shirts, coffee mugs, window clings, and beer koozies to bizarre items like Carl Kasell plush dolls and pillows.  They incorporated social media into the event by using the hashtag #NPRswag to tag pictures of you and your NPR merchandise.  Check out NPR’s blog to see a slideshow of fans and their merchandise.

Hand Sanitizers – The Promotional Product That Protected Me

Cold, flu, “that stomach bug”… it’s been all too familiar around my house lately.  My kids have had one thing after another this fall and my PTO (personal time off) has not been for me, personally.  Thankfully, (knock on wood) I have not been sick!  Do in large part to all the logo hand sanitizers I have acquired over the years.

Hand sanitizers are one of those promotional items that are very useful, especially this time of year.  You can never have enough in my opinion.  I like to have one in my purse, my diaper bag, my car, my desk and in various rooms in my house.  There are many different options available from different shapes and sized bottles to foaming, alcohol-free, tinted, and even some with those fun colored moisture beads inside.  Choose a unique hand sanitizer that suits your target market and matches your brand. Here are some new, fun options…

This circular-shaped hand sanitizer is available in 6 colors and has the option of a full color imprint on the front decal.

Corporate Holiday Gifts That Last All Year Long

When buying corporate holiday gifts it is ideal for the gift you are giving to have a long lasting impact.  You want your customers or clients to remember your company or organization throughout the year.  Here are some unique ideas to make sure your corporate holiday gifts last all year long.

1. Create your own Candy of the Month Club

Buy an imprinted candy jar and fill it with gourmet treats or candies, like the Visionsteel Apothecary Jar (pictured above).   Include a personalized note and let them know you plan to refill their jar throughout the year.  Mail or drop off new treats for national holidays, bizarre holidays, or anytime!  Some ideas are Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, National Candy Day (Nov 4th), National Gummy Worm Day (July 15th), and of course Halloween.  Don’t show up to your client without candy or a sweet treat in your hand… it’s inexpensive and yet brightens their day!

Personalized Holiday Food Gifts

If you work in an office, every holiday season usually brings holiday food gift baskets.  You have your standard popcorn tins, seasonal fruit boxes, chocolates, and large sampler gift towers.  Doesn’t matter what it is really, people turn into carnivores when someone sends free food.  No one will turn away a food gift, but to really make an impact when you send your gifts make sure your holiday food gifts are personalized with your company or organization’s logo or name. It makes you stand out from the other food gifts that arrive and helps solidify your brand.

At Pinnacle we offer many different Personalized Holiday Food Gift options and there is something for every budget.  Some items can be imprinted on the tin, box, or ribbon and some can even be imprinted on the actual dessert.  I personally love the logo Oreo cookies, rice krispies and fortune cookies.  They make such a beautiful presentation with your full color logo and matching sprinkles, plus they taste amazing.  Here is a little inspiration board to get your creative juices flowing.

Heather’s Product Picks of the Week [Thanksgiving Edition] – Promotional Kitchen Products

Happy Thanksgiving all!  In honor of this holiday meant to relax and be thankful, I decided to share a delicious Make Ahead Mashed Potato recipe and some of my favorite promotional kitchen products.  First the products… with so much time spent in the kitchen during the holidays it makes sense to use branded kitchen supplies to promote your company or organization.  Everyone enjoys a gift that is useful and especially if it comes as an appreciation gift surrounding the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Tiny Tot Magnetic Timer is an essential kitchen tool, especially when you are trying to time multiple dishes to be ready at the same time.  This timer comes in 5 bold colors (green is my personal favorite) and bonus, it has a magnet back so it just sits right on your refrigerator or oven door.

Heather’s Product Pick of the Week: TakeOut Tumbler Infuser

So it’s pretty much common knowledge that as part of a healthy diet you are supposed to drink 8 glasses of water a day.  I try to do this everyday and I’ve also eliminated soda from my diet.  Most days I’m content just drinking my water, but I recently found a new product, the TakeOut Tumbler Infuser that makes getting my 8 glasses of water easy and fun!

When I first got my sample of the TakeOut Tumbler Infuser I checked out the quality of the tumbler. I was pleased that the straw fit tightly in the lid and the double walled acrylic construction was well made.  For branding purposes, the full color wrap around insert gives you plenty of space to promote your company or organization.  The infuser basket also easily snapped in and out of the lid which made me immediately start thinking of creative recipes for infused water.

Monthly Specials – Quality at a Great Price

It’s the beginning of November and I am already starting to plan for my Holiday shopping. I want to find quality gifts but at a great price.  I love that feeling I get when I score a nice item at an excellent price! I had my personal shopping in mind when I selected our November and December Monthly Specials for Pinnacle.

The Merchandising team spent hours researching and selecting quality branded merchandise with high perceived value but at a budget-friendly price.  We also looked for products that had stellar customer reviews.  Nothing makes us happier than reading a great review and knowing that our products were well received and helped our client’s in their marketing and branding goals.  Many of the products in the Monthly Specials category have made great client holiday gifts and employee incentives.

Here are two of my favorites products from our Monthly Specials with featured customer reviews: Continue reading
